Monday Meditations – I John 1:3

October 10, 2011

Today’s Meditation Verse:

I John 1:3

3What we have seen and [ourselves] heard, we are also telling you, so that you too may [d]realize and enjoy fellowship as partners and partakers with us. And [this] fellowship that we have [which is a [e]distinguishing mark of Christians] is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ (the Messiah).

The point that I want to bring out in today’s scripture is shown by using the Amplified Bible.  And that point is where John states that we have fellowship with the Father and His Son Jesus Christ.  The brackets in the Amplified state that this is a distinguishing mark of Christians.

Monday Meditations – I Peter 5:7

October 3, 2011

Today’s Meditation Verse:

I Peter 5:7 King James Bible (KJV)

Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.

1 Peter 5:7 Amplified Bible (AMP)

Casting the [a]whole of your care [all your anxieties, all your worries, all your concerns, [b]once and for all] on Him, for He cares for you affectionately and cares about you [c]watchfully.(A)

Most of the time when a scripture comes to my mind it comes to me in the King James Version because that was the version I was reading and studying when the word of God first came alive to me and burned into my heart.  So that is the way I remember it, not from memorization, but because that is how it was seared into my heart.

Monday Meditations – John 1:12

September 26, 2011

Today’s Medication Verse:

John 1:12

12) But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, even to those who believe in His name,

From the time Christ was here and came to bring the pure undiluted and perfect gospel, man himself has set out, even if unintentionally to dissect and dilute it.

Through the years there have become thousands of different beliefs on not only religion, but also the gospel itself.  Churches continue to split even now in regards to what they want to believe is the truth. Continue reading

Monday Meditations – Romans 8:19

September 19, 2011

Todays Meditation Verse:

Romans 8:19

19) All creation is eagerly waiting for God to reveal who his children are.

Monday Meditations are designed to get you to thinking about scriptures that you may have not previously thought much about.  It is to hopefully get you to meditating on a particular scripture for the entire week.  I think this week you may ponder this one for some time.

The world that we know today is not what was originally created prior to the fall of man.  We cannot comprehend the way creation was because we have no form of reference.  All that we know is what we have seen and experienced in our lifetime. Continue reading

Monday Meditation – Matthew 6:9-13

 September 12, 2011

today’s meditation verses:

Matthew 6:9-13

9 our father in heaven,

may your name be kept holy.

10 may your kingdom come soon.

may your will be done on earth,

as it is in heaven.

11 give us today the food we need,a

12 and forgive us our sins,

as we have forgiven those who sin against us.

13 and don’t let us yield to temptation,b

but rescue us from the evil one.c

This is the Lord’s Prayer as translated in the new living translation. Most of us can quote it from the King James Bible, but I wanted to use the NLT because is brings the prayer into today’s simpler language.

For some reason this prayer has been resonating within me lately. Often when I pray these words seem to rise up within me. So, I’ve begun praying this prayer often. Because of that I’ve also begun mediating on the words of this prayer and just exactly what I am praying.

Verse 9 acknowledges the holiness of God and prays that His name will be kept holy. As we enter into his gates in prayer, remembering God’s holiness is of supreme importance and will center us in our faith as we do remember.

Verse 10 asks for God’s kingdom to come soon. He was teaching this to those gathered around Him prior to His crucifixion and resurrection, therefore His kingdom on this earth had not yet come.  So they were to pray for it to come. Now we are to pray for its increase and that the kingdom here will reflect God’s heavenly kingdom.

Verse 11 asks for our daily food. We know that there are ample scriptures about God’s abundant provision and that we have no need to worry about it. But here it does show that we are to continue to pray and request that provision. However to be fed by daily bread may not just mean literal bread but spiritual and emotional nourishment as well.

Verse 12 shows us to ask for forgiveness as we forgive those around us. We are perpetually forgiven, but if we want to put a kink in the pipeline of grace which rains that forgiveness down on us, then all we have to do is not forgive others. Note verses 14 and 15.

Verse 13 asks God to help us with all the daily temptations that will most assuredly come our way and also asks that he will run interference for us with the enemy, protecting us throughout the day.

The preceding verses to this prayer talk about not needing to babble on with long lengthy prayers. I love the simplicity of this prayer that covers so much in such an efficient manner. Learn this prayer and its meaning and then you will no longer have the excuse that you have no time to pray or that you do not know what to pray.

Meditating on the meaning of these prayer verses will bring reflection to ours lives. Use this prayer to kick start your prayer life today.

Monday Meditations – Acts 3:19

September 5, 2011

Todays Meditation Verse:

Acts 3:19

Now repent of your sins and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped away.

Have you ever had an etch-a-sketch?  I may be dating myself here, but I did as a child.  It was one of my favorite toys!  I would painstakingly work and work to produce a spectacular work of art.

Monday Meditations – Acts 1:8

August 29, 2011

Today’s Meditation Verse:

Acts 1:8

But you shall receive power (ability, efficiency, and might) when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you shall be My witnesses in Jerusalem and all Judea and Samaria and to the ends (the very bounds) of the earth.

I became born again when I was 13 years old.  I had known, walked with and loved the Lord for many years prior, but realized at 13 that I needed to be born again.  I attended a denominational church at that time which focused on salvation and very little else. Continue reading

Monday Meditations – Proverbs 16:18

August 22, 2011

Today’s Meditation Verse:

Proverbs 16:18
Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.

I love reading the Lexicon version of a scripture.  To me it reveals so much.

For instance there is little variation in this scripture from translation to translation.  It pretty much says it like it is and in any language or culture it is pretty much the same.

But just now as I was reading this verse in the Lexcon (the original Greek translation) I saw something that I had to meditate on for a bit.  Then I saw how obvious the original word was to our own modern terminology.

That word is before.  In the Lexicon that word means faces.  We use that word often now.  She is facing an uphill battle. He is facing termination at work. They are facing the playoffs.

We know this word so well.

Let’s look at this week’s scripture again using the original word, facing.

Pride causes you to face destruction, and a haughty spirit will cause you to face a fall.

We know when we face something that it is coming, for sure.  Something that we face is something we know we will have to deal with.

So this week when you meditate on this scripture know that the pride in your life will cause you to face with certainty, destruction and that a haughty spirit will cause you to face a fall.

August 15, 2011

Monday Meditations – 2 Timothy 3:16

Aug 8, 2011

Today’s Meditation Verse:

2 Timothy 3:16
All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness;

This scripture seems like an obvious statement.  But there are aspects to this verse that many people disregard.  One item is the very first word.  It says ALL scripture is inspired by God and profitable… Continue reading
