Today’s Meditation Verse

Colossians 3:16-17

16 Let the teaching concerning Christ remain as a rich treasure in your hearts. In all wisdom teach and admonish one another with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs, and sing with grace in your hearts to God. 17 And whatever you do, in word or in deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, and let it be through Him that you give thanks to God the Father.

Today’s verse was taken from the Weymouth version of the bible.  I really love the way it uses these particular words because it reflects just how I feel.

Let the teaching concerning Christ remain as a rich treasure in your hearts.

A rich treasure.  When you hear teaching about Jesus, do you hold it as a ‘rich treasure’ in your heart?  I do.  And as every year passes it is more and more dear to me.  I believe if we truly treasure in our hearts Jesus and all teachings about Him then there is little room for anything else.  It will push out bad desires which pushes out bad behaviors.  How can we treasure Jesus and His teachings in our heart and still harbor malice and discontent?

And then…

…whatever you do, in word or in deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, and let it be through Him that you give thanks to God the Father.

If we do EVERYTHING in the name of the Lord Jesus how can we do anything that isn’t loving and kind towards others?  And then add to that giving thanks to God while doing it.  There leaves no room in our lives for the sinful acts of our old life.

Our Father God is a generous and loving Father.  Meditate on that this week and allow Him to flood your heart with His love.  You will in turn not be able to resist giving Him thanks on this Thanksgiving week.
