Today’s Meditation Verse:
10) FOR THIS IS THE COVENANT THAT I WILL MAKE WITH THE HOUSE OF ISRAEL
AFTER THOSE DAYS, SAYS THE LORD:
I WILL PUT MY LAWS INTO THEIR MINDS,
AND I WILL WRITE THEM ON THEIR HEARTS.
AND I WILL BE THEIR GOD,
AND THEY SHALL BE MY PEOPLE.
I love this verse. Here the author is talking to the Hebrews. He is talking to the people who have made a life of living by the law. Thousands and thousands of laws. Their entire life from the time they were tiny children to old age was continual law indoctrination. Because that was what God had told them to do.
But this verse shows the true heart of God. It is a show of love that He said long ago in the old testament that He intended to do away with the law, to free them. And when He would free them, He would then put ‘right and wrong’ on their hearts and in their minds. It would be automatic and they would know what to do.
In the New Covenant and being the engrafted branch into the Jewish nation, we too have had this stamped upon our hearts and minds. The Holy Spirit resides in all true believers in their heart and He is there to teach us ‘right and wrong’.
I also like the next verse of this scripture because it says that they won’t have to be taught what the laws are. With so much of their life spent day after day trying to learn every law to please God, they were consumed with it. But God was not only going to set them free from the responsibility of having to learn, since He was just going to PUT it there, they no longer were slaves to and endless life of teaching!
11 “AND THEY SHALL NOT TEACH EVERYONE HIS FELLOW CITIZEN,
AND EVERYONE HIS BROTHER, SAYING, ‘KNOW THE LORD,’
FOR ALL WILL KNOW ME,
FROM THE LEAST TO THE GREATEST OF THEM.

Oh my goodness!! What a confirmation–my husband and I were talking about this very thing this a.m. on the way to work! He is going to teach next Saturday at a men’s group and he was telling me what the Holy Spirit had shown him about the scriptures in John 8:32-36 and how the Jews misunderstood Jesus–the Jews saying they were not slaves…though Jesus was telling them he would set them free from following the laws!!
Yes, the Holy Spirit is here for a specific reason and we have so underestimated His worth and His role in our lives! We are free, but not alone!!
