Christian Clones

 July 11, 2011

We want to be better.  We want to do better.  So when we see something that works, we try to copy it.  If it worked for them then it should work for us.  Right?

The library shelves are filled with row after row of ‘Self Help’ books.  Even in the Christian section there are tons of books on how to better your life.  How to lose weight, better handle your finances, break free of addictions, release anger and so many more.  If you want help in an area, you will find a book on the subject.

Good Ground

?

July 8, 2011

I grew up on a farm.  We didn’t just live on a farm; my daddy was actually a farmer who grew crops on the farm.  So I know a little bit about ground.  Both good ground and bad ground.

I would say that most of his work consisted of preparing the ground to receive the seeds.  He did everything he could do to make that ground, good ground.  If he did a good job and was successful in creating good ground, then when the seeds were planted the crop would grow well with minimum effort and the harvest would be abundant. In Search of a Feel Good

July 6, 2011

I love to sit back and watch people. I suppose I am what you call an ‘Armchair Psychiatrist’. I love to ponder and analyze why people do what they do.

Thankfully I had been a scholar of the bible long before psychiatry. I learned, to my surprise, that in all of my psychiatry courses those thoughts and theories were already documented in the bible. I kept proclaiming to myself as I would read my text – that’s in the bible! Solomon was truly correct in stating that there was nothing new under the sun. Continue reading

so what am I supposed to do?

July 1, 2011

I’ve been writing a lot lately about resting in Christ and abandoning works of the flesh. About how we aren’t to work to be approved in God’s eyes; just receive His grace and favor. If this is all a new concept to you, as it once was to me, then you may be asking yourself, “So, what is it that I AM supposed to do?”

Without a doubt we are to do something, so how is it we can be certain that what we are doing is truly what we should be doing? Continue reading

Go and Sin No More

June 29, 2011
John 8:10-11
10 Then Jesus stood up again and said to the woman, “Where are your accusers? Didn’t even one of them condemn you?”
11 “No, Lord,” she said. And Jesus said, “Neither do I. Go and sin no more.” Click to read in full context

This is a beautiful story of a woman caught in the act of adultery receiving no condemnation from Jesus. Continue reading

Elevator Buttons

?

June 24, 2011

It is hard to resist. You know, pushing an elevator button more than once.

We push the button and nothing happens. So we look at it long and hard. It is lit but nothing is happening, that we can see anyway. Continue reading

Patience

June 22, 2011

Do you think we will ever have all the patience we will need? As for me…

I DOUBT IT!!! Oh my!! Just about the time I see myself exhibiting extreme patience, well then you know how that goes…

But lets consider a few whose patience was more than I can ever hope to achieve. Continue reading

Do People Ever Really Change?

June 17, 2011

We often say that people don’t change.  We warn those in relationships of that very thing.  If you are in a relationship and think that you can change that other person with your love and care and nurture, you are wrong.  You will never change that person.

Same is true with friendships.  If you are staying in relationship that causes you grief, but you stay because you think that something you will do will change them, you are wrong.  You might as well raise up the white flag and abandon ship right now.  You will never change anyone.

But, people do change.  I’ve seen the most despicable sinful people become godly men and women seeking after the Father.  People I would have long since given up on become more than I ever thought they would become.  I’ve had to eat my words. Continue reading

Hard Work

June 15, 2011

Hard Work…

We wear that phrase like a badge of honor.

“I worked really hard today”.

“I logged 50 hours this week at work”.

“Man, I’m exhausted I’ve worked so hard”.

And I know you can come up with many more. After all, we have said something like that so many times and been very proud of that very fact. Continue reading

GIGO

June 10, 2011
I remember many years ago when I was studying computer science, first in vo-tech in the 70’s then in college in the 80’s, there was a term that was frequently used. It sounded funny, and we began to toss it around quite flippantly, but nevertheless one that is true and was birthed out of truth. The irony of that term is that it is pretty much universal, not just for computers. That term is GIGO or Garbage In Garbage Out.

Through the years I’ve come to realize this is critically true of us as humans. From the moment a baby is born, they are learning. They are taking in information which will develop them into the person they will become. The better the information they take in, the better person they will grow to be. Continue reading
